There used to be the Tanjoji Temple, built on the site of Saint Nichiren's birthplace,
in between Kobenten and Obenten but it is said that it sank to the seabed due to the earthquake and tsunami in 1498(7th year of Meio Era). In "Sankizui", it is written that when Saint Nichiren was born, "Lotus flowers bloomed even though it was not the season, deep-sea snappers swarmed near the surface of the water, and pure water started
springing out from the front garden of the Nukina family's house." It is often said that the five-colored sands are an incarnation of the lotus flowers that bloomed at that time.

Tanjoji temple, which is the chief temple of the Nichiren sect, was built by Nike and Niho in 1276 on the site of Nichren's birthplace but was lost to the sea in the earthquake and tsunami in Meio Era and Keicho Era, so it was moved to where it is now. In the great earthquake in Genroku Era and the conflagration in Horeki Era later on, the temple again lost its halls except for the Niou Gate. The halls which people
can see now, including the Soshido hall, are what was rebuilt after that.

Myorenji Temple is a temple that was built by Nike on Saint Nichiren's parents' grave site in 1267. It is said that when Saint Nichiren's mother fell seriously ill, Nichiren _ who came running to his mother's aid _ poured pure water over a religious image,
which was hung from a pine tree branch, and prayed to it, then she recovered and lived on for 4 more years.@On February 16th - the holy day that is Saint Nichiren's birthday - the statue of young Nichren, which is stored in the Tanjo-do hall of Tanjoji Temple,
is put on a gestorial chair and is carried through the streets from Myorenji Temple to Tanjoji Temple where each of the parents' graves are.

This temple was built in 1277 by Nike in commemoration of the site where Saint Nichiren, who fled from religious oppression in Komatsubara, came to rest. Nisshu was the person who restored the temple.
There are remains of the "Kizuarai" - the place where Nichiren cleaned his wound inflicted by the Religious Oppression at Komatsubara - which can be seen on the way up to the main chamber, and of the "Youhikutsu", the cave near the main chamber of the temple where Nichiren took refuge in. From these train of events, it came to be called "Kennannyokesoshi" _ the Buddhist temple of the shield from hardships.

In Sairenji Temple's records, it is written that Nichiren was raised and educated there until he was 12 years old. The Hokyouin pagoda, rebuilt in 1818, stands where the grave of Nichiren_'s nursing mother Yukijo who died in 1233 is. It is said that Nichiren left this temple when he was 12, parted with his parents at where the Koshoji Temple used to be, and entered the Seichoji Temple for training.

In the temple's records, it tells that it was opened by the monk Fushigi-Houshi, and was then refurnished in 836 as a Tendai sect temple by a priest called Jikaku-Daishi. When Nichiren was in training, this temple was of the Tendai sect but was converted to the Shingon sect in the Edo era and again in 1949 to the Nichiren sect.
7. Jishoin Namikirifudo Temple

This is a Shingon Chisan sect temple. There are many stone statues of Fudo Myo-o placed in the entrance, but in no other place in the Chiba prefecture can people see not only the Fudo Myo-os but all the Five Great Myo-os together in one temple.
